Press Release

"It has been too difficult for me to explain about myself, I guess." Yoshihiro Hanno laughs to himself. Where did he come from? His latest -GRAFFITI & RUDE BOY 67'- proves it.Needless to say, each word directly refers to its mental support: graffiti is for hip hop and rude-boy is for reggae, and this album is overwhelmed by sensuality of black music. We can express this album as the work that Yoshihiro Hanno who has always been proving himself by mixed existence and complicated crash of many types of
musical factor since he had appeared to the scene in 1997 as Multiphonic Ensemble had simply surfaced the love to his own roots on purpose reconsidering his origin and undserfoot. As being reflected in track titles like 'Rude Boy Anthem' 'Block Science' also, it is roots that music of New York and Jamaica, in other words, hip hop, dub and jazz, which he had actually experienced in the place in late 80s.

However, there is no possibility to be finished this album as simply back-to-basic and the good-old-days sound, for sure. -GRAFFITI & RUDE BOY 67'- shows surfacing of roots music because of passing through function of dance which was investigated through on "9modules.+" and precise composition which put huge range of sound that is from brass to electronics into shape beautifully, which was completed on "Lido" once, that is why the work had avoided to be done as classical dub or hip hop easily.

'Sexual Fiction' which features jazzy vocal and chopped French rap alongside sensuality and nobility. 'Rock Steady' which is getting mixed acoustic instruments including double bass, acoustic guitar and alt sax with electronics precisely. 'Rude Boy Anthem' which is minimal dub track like boldly expanded reggae's basic aesthetics:"Stay Cool" feeling. 'Block Science' which is strange electro/minimal house track like we could listen on "9modules.+". 'Till the Dawn' which soaks Terry's voice quietly and
deeply into and is getting meshed Yoshihiro Hanno's aspect of indoor music and hip hop roots drawing arc. 'Dub Suite' that is 3-parts-suite and explodes his great skill of composition, which is fully shown on "Lido", again in the framework of dub. 'Sound System 2004' which is simple but filled with deep reverbiration.Supporting -GRAFFITI & RUDE BOY 67'- is the role as recycle equipment which revives memory of term that roots music was filled with creativity, extremely physical and shown off its heat, and also the function as lighting equipment which displays much more "the future" inlaying such roots into the modern context.

" Music which is hot as blood and transparent as water" This is the word that Yoshihiro Hanno who symbolized, blessed and sticked to "diversity of music" itself without fear in his various musical styles had explained in his own words placing the word as common feeling through all of his works. This word is brilliantly penetrated also on this album. I think it will be "hotness of blood" indicates "thickness with history of black music" and "transparency of water" does "to progress it boldly without limitation of its roots". Of course, "hotness of blood" and "transparency of water" is wonderfully breathing also on this music not only as making sense for background of this work but also as its image and it is exactly the core of "the music": Yoshihiro Hanno.

Finally, I am putting profile of 2 artists:rapper and vocalist-BLACK CROM and TERRY, who both play important role in this album as follows.

BLACK CROM:
BLACK CROM is from Gabonese Republic, Africa. He had moved to France at age of 10 after parents died.Since then, he has been there and lives a small town called amiens, where locates a little further north than Paris at present. He had entered world of rap about 8 years ago and organized rap team called BLACK BIZAR and started live performances. Last year, In 2003, he had made his debut maxi single which includes 6 tracks getting cooperation of Yoshihiro Hanno. It is released in France in 2004.

TERRY (Terumi Shoji)
:
TERRY had studied in the US when she was student and touched black music of the place. Yoshihiro Hanno who is attracted by her nature deep and heavy voice and way of sensual expressing featured his own work and she is also participated in Lido Ensemble.
