Progressive Form
back to these pages again, rolling and assured this time
with four tracks from new find Nao Tokui. The opening cut promises much,
dessicated .snd, stylish just the way we like it and this template remains
with no aftertaste on the standout dancefloor microfunk of 'Monolith'.
Toughened bass, and grooving, effortlessly sync-ed clicks align themselves,
with drops from subaquatic keys - a genuine shuffling rhythmic beauty.
'Pan
Pacific' teases still more melodies from a sinewy mesh of cuts, the bassline
when it comes is bumping disco, cunningly disguised with Farbenesque
backwards jazzy sensations - another deeply moving piece of purest minimal
business. 'Graffiti' returns us to a slowly moving picture, midnight
chords
and the sense of footfalls in the dark, the sound of a rail-lumber-yard
with
street artists at work, an incredibly filmic piece just awaiting the
right
psychological drama. Accomplished stuff and more evidence that new music
is
alive and well in Tokyo. Blinding. (BOOMKAT)
