Silicom - Two (Progressive Form)
Cat No: pfC_2.
The inlay on this release from the incredibly talented AOKI Takamasa says, "please do not smoke while you're listening to this CD", and from the first listen you understand exactly why! Spaced out electronics, bare loosely formed melodies and all manner of weird and wonderful FX combine to produce a heady psychotropic mix. At times, some of the sounds can be a little harsh on the ears, but the rewards are worth persevering for. "Remo." sounds like the death and subsequent funeral of a robot, with its distressed FXed vocals, feeding-back nauseous synth, ripping percussion and bizarre macabre melodic chug. "Sorc." splits ears with its raw synth, while body popping electro type percussion and grim depressing keys find a losing point for bedraggled vocals. "Stdt." takes tentative percussion and a low- slung sub bass as a starting point, as a melodic ghostly synth captivates all. "Neuger." is a nightmarish world to lose oneself in, courtesy of a haunting organ type melody, slow simple percussion and chewed up vocals. A glimpse of the future?

Aoki Takamasa Silicom Two (Progressive Form / Hard Wax)
Zukunftsmusik.

AOKI TAKAMASA "Silicom Two"
CD Progressive Form Cat.-Nr.: pfC_2 Release Date: May 2002
Distribution (Germany/Europe) : < http://www.hardwax.com > < http://www.baked-goods.com >
Promotion across Europe trough : < http://www.dense.com >

The Osaka-born artist AOKI Takamasa is part of a new generation of Japanese composers who must really enjoy their custom-made software paraphernalia.
Formerly known as nexus6,5 he expands into AOKI Takamasa by February 2000. He is both a pioneer. A new breed of DJ that tries to bridge the ever-widening gap between fancy club music and the more arcane electronica.
As we have witnessed allready on their first SILICOM CD (pfC_1) AOKI and Masakazu Takagi combine their capacities into a rather unique audio/visual live performance.
Masakazu Takagis extensive footage of his round-the-world-trips is enlivened into an artificial life existence on huge screens. Trough the interplay of optical and auditory atmospherics their technical proclivities have been well sought after. In 2001, the duo has performed live for over 40 times in Japan, USA, France (in December at batofar), Germany and Turkey (in November at the Istanbul biennale).
AOKI Takamasa also performed with the following artists: CYLOB (Rephlex), FREEFORM (Warp, Skam), MIKROSTORIA (Markus Pop/OVAL and Jan St. Werner), RADIO BOY a.k.a. Matthew Herbert, TAKKYU ISHINO, DJ KENSEI, SHUFFLE MASTER, FLARE a.k.a. KEN ISHII, OTOMO YOSHIHIDE, Atau Tanaka, Ryoji Ikeda, Nobukazu Takemura, ONO SATORU (KAERU CAF/SHOWA DENKI), Numb, JUZU a.k.a. MOOCHY, REI HARAKAMI, KAORU INOUE, IZZY a.k.a. IZURU UTSUMI and many others.

Anyway, if you plan buying the Silicom Two CD youll have to change your smoking habits as its stated clearly on the CD sleeve on the bottom: please dont not smoke while youre listening to this CD. Just take a breath of fresh air and admire the painstaking redness sprinkled with screen-test projections on the cover designed by AOKI takamasa, MIZUTANI masakatsu and TAKAGI masakatsu.

AOKI Takamasa - Srd / A Short Break Remix
( Progressive FOrM )
Cat No: pfL_8. Out Now.
Japanese electronica genius AOKI Takamasa unleashes another slice of experimental grooves to blur boundaries and ask the unanswerable. "Srd", probably not a homage to the UK distributor of the same name, takes out-there keys, distressing feedback, popped makeshift percussion, a slight tender guitar and a baffled bass on a questioning voyage. AOKI Takamasa's remix of Hanno Yoshiro's "Short Break" jangles percussion, as keys are bubbled and a bass scratches.

Aoki Takamasa 'Silicom Two' / Progressive Form
(svs)

Eutro "Perspective" (Progressive Form)
Cat No: PFL-9. Promo.
Eutro are Kyoto based Hos and Kondo, and this extended 12inch from the pair is thoroughly mesmerizing. "Perspective" is a tad on the long side at twenty minutes twenty seven seconds, as wobbly keys, tentative percussion and a cataclysmic bass and are shown the way by a guiding synth. "Scent" is half as long, but doubly impressive, courtesy of synth rushes, atmospheric keys and reassuring digital percussion.

AOKI Takamasa (Silicom/Progressive Form) Cat No: pfC_1. Out Now.
A while back, Progessive Form was born, and this is the first fruit of the label. Experimental in places, and more conservative in others, AOKI proves he is a master of Japanese electronica. At times scarily moody and dark, and at others all sweetness and light, this is a wonderful thought-provoking CD. "Std." is a sinisterly percussed number, with a haunting whispering wind, bleep keys, a dragging bass and a strangled cat violin sound-alike. "Ham." is a mouth-watering combination of moulded tech breaks, teetering keys, subtle disturbing bass lunges and smouldering synths. "Nuron" is a minimal medieval key ode, where ear injuring gravely percussion and a low@down bass link arms. "Kes." is the standout cut by a mile, with its blissful keys, humming bass, distraught elongated vocals and funked up percussion. Originally released in 2000, this album is still turning heads today, with its futuristically geared soundscapes, patterns and textures.

Aoki Takamasa Silicom Two <2x12"> Progressive Form

AOKI Takamasa " Quantum " (CD-R)
Cat No : N/A. Release Date : Unknown
Progressive Form`s favourite son proves why he`s one of the best in the "out-there" electronica scene, with this seven tracker in a very appealing space-age case. Taking uncharted soundscapes and wonderful voyages into the unknown, AOKI thrills those who "listen" and don`t just "hear" the music that is put in front of them. "Girl At The Corner" is a dillusionary bass fuelled number, with angelic toned instructing vocals, hyperventilating surface percussion and a wave (in the Physics not sea sense of the word) synth.
"Frozen Fountain" is one of the most remarkable moments captured on sound ever, as clicks and rumblings perforate a family`s day out. "Rec-Rec" is a wretched harpsichord type number, where accompanying percussion and bass additions hold it down. Worth looking out for.
AOKI TAKAMASA "Silicom Two"
(CD Progressive Form)
The second album of this Japanese duo offers more of their soothing mix of glitch ambient and micro rhythms the first one already delivered so splendidly. Electronic renditions, straight out of inductor coils of monorails that are roaming Japans megacities. Humming fields of crackling rhythms and electronically enhanced mood modifiers that groove and twist and flow with quite a straight electro thump. There is so many micro ambient and laptop artists nowadays, and yet I do not tire of this sound. There is so much to hear between the sound layers, beyond the beat, that I continue to be enthralled. There is still much to explore and thankfully Aoki Takamasa is doing their part..

Aoki Takamasa - srd. / a short break (remix)', Progressive Form, Japan

>From the Mille Plateaux-esque, Tokyo based Progressive Form label. 'Srd' is a relatively enjoyable modem-scape, with elements of Microstoria and Pansonic, in a clicks and cuts style. 'A short break', taken from Yoshimira Hanno's 'April Remix' album, completely catches you by surprise however. With a subversive bass line that creeps up on you from behind, using stealth technology. Fans of Vladislav Delay or Kit Clayton will not be disappointed. A glitchalicious kind of dub.
