LIVE review : AOKI takamasa + Tujiko Noriko LIVE in Paris

aoki-tujiko-11-01-06.jpg

(English below)

It's been a while. The first LIVE review in 2006 is me and Tujiko Noriko's LIVE at La Guinguette Pirate on the Seine river on 11th of January. Unfortunately it was rainning quite hard in that evening, but i was super glad (as always) that so many people came to see our show even in such a bad weather. I know we still have some parts to be more progressed, but I'm sure we've done quite a good show this time and I really enjoyed it myself. I hope people who came to see our show also felt the same. I'd like to say thank you to all the people on the boat and also Clement and Marina who organized this event. Massive thanks to you all. I feel that we're getting better and better everytime.

We still have another show in this month which is at mnac in Bucharest Romania, and also another one on 10th of February which is called open circuit organized by fatcat records. Please come when you have a chance. I've never been to both countries, so I'm really looking forward to it. We'll do our best.

hi AOKI
your latest LIVE looks like it was another great show :)
interesting location too...a boat. it looked like alot of fun.
its a shame you dont have any videos of your performances with Tujiko Noriko, I'm very excited to see/ hear how you perform together :(
do you and Tujiko have any other songs that yous play that aren't on "28"?

I hope you have a great time when you travel next and have great shows at mnac and open circuit :)

best,
Murray Turner, Scotland.

hello again AOKI,
this isn't related to the blog, but I just read an interview with you on www.teamabunai.org ...its quite an old interview now.
In the interview you are asked your thoughts on the whole file sharing and the internet situation we have in the music industry these days. I agree with your opinions on this, but I have to be honost with you...I have downloaded a few of your albums from the internet, and this is how I first heard your solo works.
Your music is still quite hard to get even on the internet and because of the time difference between the UK and Japan, there is only certain times of the day when your music is available to download. So its a very small scale thing unlike alot of other artists face.
I buy your works when and if I can (like your work with Tujiko Noriko), but because your music is very hard to get hold of in the UK, this is very difficult. And so it's due to the internet that I have been able to hear your music.
I have bought everything I possibly can of yours in the UK but this is only a few releases :(
I like to feel I am helping the artist in someway when buying their CDs, and although I haven't been able to buy alot of your work, I have introduced many friends and other people to your music (even to people of other countries) and I have tried to promote your work whenever I can. I hope I have helped you in some way by doing this :)

You have become my favourite artist and my role model and you and your music inspires me when writing and producing my own music, so thank you :)
I guess I have to thank file sharing for this too because without it I wouldn't be in the position I am in now and I wouldn't know of your amazing work :)

So, how do you feel about this?
Do you think in circumstances like this, file sharing is OK?

best,
Murray Turner, Scotland.

P.S. Sorry for such a long comment ;-)

>>Murray.
thanks for your comment.
I don't balme you even if you got my songs from file sharing, my
works are not distributed and I understand that you have really
difficult situation to buy my works. To be honest I'm glad to hear that people enjoy my music more than anything else even if they got my works from file sharing.
and I think We can't really stop this system anymore right now, I don't vote deny about it.(but I'm not using it now)
What i think the most important thing is respecting people who made something we think it's great.(I know you do) and If we want to enjoye their
works, we should do something for them. It can be anything, for example if we can buy it, we should buy it, and if we can't, maybe we can tell about them to our friends just like you do for me. As i said in the interview, it's like a voting. I've been doing this because i really wanted to enjoy their next works and releases.
I hope my next album and previous works are distributed in all over the world someday in the near future. I'll do my best and work a lot to realize this.
thanks again.

hi,
i have recently been watching your LIVE review videos on www.traksy.com a lot and i am very impressed by these videos. its very exciting for me when i watch your LIVE's. i love how you perform and it's exciting for me when you change and improvise your songs at each LIVE. i like when artists do this because it gives a whole new listening experience, and although these songs are recognisable, it's like you are hearing the songs again for the first time.

Anyway, i was wondering...
on this video from the op.disc showcase in Berlin http://www.traksy.com/streaming/2005/09/000579.php
is the first song one of your new songs? if so, i really like it :) ...is it your voice?
Also on this video, what is the name of the second song you play? I really love this song and parts of it sound familiar and some parts don't. I have heard you play this song on another video on your LIVE reviews ( August 6th @ FEMEV 2005 in Poland) and you performed it very differently and played it into "26th Floor" (one of my favourite LIVE videos on your web...i love the lighting and your silhouette, and how the Apple's on your PowerBooks stand out :))
I love both of these versions and i was just curious to know if this song is a new song or just an improvised one? if it is improvised, what song is it?
I was also very impressed by this LIVE
http://www.traksy.com/streaming/2005/04/000230.php
I like how you have changed your songs here and also the camera shots are very good...you can see what you are doing close up :)
This is the first time I have heard you sing live and i really liked it. I love "See That Girl" it's such a great song and i love the way it makes me move ;-)
I was also wondering what the 2nd song on this LIVE is http://www.traksy.com/streaming/2005/03/000189.php

While I'm on the subject, this is one of my favourite versions you have done of "Doki Doki Last Night" http://www.traksy.com/streaming/2005/06/000430.php
I really love Ryoichi Kurokawa's audio and visual works too :)

I am very sorry I ask so many questions and leave long comments, i hope it doesn't bother you?
thanks.

best,
Murray Turner, Scotland.

Murray
thanks for your comment.
and thanks for checking traksy.com even it's all written in Japanese..
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed them.

>is the first song one of your new songs?

Yes. Actually It's quite old, but it's not released yet.

>if so, i really like it :) ...is it your voice?

Yes it is.

>Also on this video, what is the name of the
>second song you play?

There's no name for it but it is like a self remix of the song called "simply funk".

>i was just curious to know if this song is a new song
>or just an improvised one? if it is improvised, what song is it?

It's both. I always make some materials for LIVE performances
and sometimes i improvise with them and sometime I play recorded sound and add something on it with 2nd computer. Even if it's prepared and recorded song, the song is separately out put to the mixer(for exmaple Bass drum comes from track 1 and white noise comes from track 2), and I sometimes cut some of the tracks if i feel like it. so it sounds defferent sometimes. So i basically don't name any song when i'm playing LIVE. it's all mixed up. I hope my English is OK..

>I was also wondering what the 2nd song on this LIVE
>is http://www.traksy.com/streaming/2005/03/000189.php

It's just a song for this performance, and I don't think I'm going to release it.

>i hope it doesn't bother you?

no, not at all. I'm glad that you're interested in what I've been doing.
thanks again.

>Right now I can only listen to the 30 seconds .
>AIFF file that is on your webpage...

Hi,
file sharing, illegal copy... this is an interesting topic. I believe it's kind of useless fighting against this because it is a fact: getting music from the internet or copying cds is now so easy that you can't stop it. Music industry has to adapt and artists as well.

In your case AOKI, it's true that it's too difficult to get your music here. And I think people don't buy music if they can't hear it before. That's why I think a good strategy is to release some music on net-labels (some are excellent) so that people can discover your music for free. On the other hand, keep releasing most of your music on traditional labels. Needless to say that being well distributed is a must.
A good example is Andrey Kiritchenko who makes some tracks (or even albums) for free labels such as the japanese label Minus N and still releases most of his work on his own label or some others.

AOKI, I hope you'll find some good distributors outside Japan. I think that if you keep releasing music on japanese labels without any strong distributors, you'll unfortunalety still face the same issue. It's a pity that people who want to buy your discs hardly find any.

One more thing, why not recording one of your killing(!) live performance and put it free to download on your web site? I'm sure you would get some contacts for concerts. Apparat did it on his web site and I think it's a good idea.

Jim
thanks for your comment.

>In your case AOKI, it's true that it's too difficult to
>get your music here.

I know.. But please Don't worry. We're now working really hard to make it better.
and it'll be better soon.
I believe that op.disc will be the first Japanese electronic music label which
is distributed all over the world. we're gonna make it.

>you'll unfortunalety still face the same issue.
>It's a pity that people who want to buy your discs
>hardly find any.

This problem will be solved in the near future.
We're working on it really hard.

>One more thing, why not recording one of your killing(!)
>live performance and put it free to download on your web site?
>I'm sure you would get some contacts for concerts.

I'd like to respect people who come to see my LIVE at the venue.
They spend their money, time and take the trouble of paying a visit to to my shows.
So in my opinion LIVE has to be something special for them, and I believe that LIVE performance only works at where I play(venue).
That's why I always change my style for each venue.
I learned this from what I've done so far.

It's really easy to record LIVE and release, but the result(recorded sound) is not something what i really want to release and ask people
to buy with their money.
I'm always doing my best for EVERY LIVE performance, and I'm
hoping that people will feel something special and people will tell
thire friends about me, and I believe this will help my career to keep making music.

thanks for your advice.

i was selling those LIVE CDs at that time ;-)
But Now i had to change my mind, that's why i stopped selling those..
